Greetings, from the Board of Education:
East St. Louis School District 189 is eagerly anticipating the allocation of state funds that will result in the construction of a new high school.
Officials said just under $30 million in the form of a school construction grant has been earmarked for East St. Louis, with the funds being targeted for release based upon approval of the state’s budget.
During his State of the State address earlier this year Gov. Rod Blagojevich expressed his desire to commit to a variety of projects, including school construction, calling for $500 million for school construction projects throughout the state.
We’re very excited about the new high school construction project, for we feel it will be most beneficial to the community for many generations to come. Our board has worked diligently with state officials to ensure that our facilities be upgraded, and the end result has been state-of-the-art buildings dotting the landscape. The new high school grant funding initiative is yet another achievement that will place our school district at the forefront of progress and development.
Yours in service,
Lonzo Greenwood
President
East St. Louis School District 189 Board of Education
